What is Kybella? Kybella is a non-surgical, injectable double-chin reduction treatment to reduce moderate to severe fat tissue (submental fat) under the chin and on the upper neck. A double-chin can make you look older and heavier than you actually are no-matter what your lifestyle. Under the chin and upper neck fat is stubborn and often does not respond to a healthy diet and regular exercise. Kybella is a substance called deoxycholic acid, which the body naturally produces, and helps to absorb fat. The main function of deoxycholic acid is to dissolve fat cells, thus reducing fat tissue. Kybella is not meant to tighten skin under the chin or on the upper neck, but it will cause the destruction of fat cells, leaving a contoured and improved chin and neck profile. If you are unhappy with the fat under your chin and don’t want to have a surgical procedure, Kybella may be right for you. Kybella treatment can only be administered by a trained medical professional over a series of treatment sessions.
The number of treatment sessions varies depending on an individual’s specific needs, but each Kybella treatment is given in one month intervals up to six treatments. Most people require a series of three treatments over a three month period. Each treatment session consists of a series of injections under the chin lasting about 15 to 20 minutes. The number of injections depends on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile contour. The most common side effects experienced after treatment include light bruising, tenderness, swelling and redness. Average cost: $1,375 per treatment
Step 1 – Using a special grid, the injection specialist will map and mark the injection sites under your chin and on your upper neck.
Step 2 – Sanitize the injection site with an antibacterial agent. A topical anesthetic will be administered to numb the skin (if necessary).
Step 3 – Using the grid as a guide, the specialist will administer anywhere from 14-50 injections depending on your needs over a 15-20 minute period.
Step 4 – Ice to reduce swelling. Light bruising may occur.
