Breast Reconstruction After Horizontal Scar Mastectomy
This is the case of a 64-year-old female with a most recent history of invasive right breast cancer. Ten years prior the patient had left breast cancer. She underwent bilateral mastectomies through classical horizontal scars and with a right sentinel lymph node biopsy. Immediately after the bilateral mastectomy 2 tissue expanders with Allodermā¢ were used for her first stage of reconstruction.
Many months later after full breast tissue expansion on both sides, she was brought back to the operating room to exchange them for silicone breast implants. We went through the old horizontal scars to take out the expanders and exchange them for the gel implants. Bilateral 450 cc smooth round high profile Style 20 NatrelleĀ® cohesive silicone gel implants were used. Her final stage was bilateral nipple flap reconstruction 3 months after getting her gel implants. We then referred her, as we do all of our patients to our expert medical tattoo artist to perform bilateral 3D nipple and areola reconstruction. The patient was very pleased with her results.
