The Procedures:
1. Tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty)
What is a tummy tuck?
Abdominoplasty, commonly called the a tummy tuck, is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin and fat of the stomach and restores weakened or separated abdominal muscles, giving a flat and firm abdominal profile. During pregnancy, the inner girdle of your abdomen (fascia), stretching from your ribs to pubic bone, which holds your internal organs in place, stretches, causing weight gain and your stomach to protrude. You may be a good tummy tuck candidate if you have excess fat, excess loose skin or stretch marks from pregnancy, loosened or weakened abdominal muscles or are dissatisfied with the overall appearance of your abdomen.
How is the procedure done?
Step 1 – Performed under general anesthesia.
Step 2 – A surgeon will make an incision from hip to hip (along your natural bikini line) and remove most of the skin between the belly button and pubic bone.
Step 3 – The thin layer of fascia holding your abdominal muscles in place will be tightened with sutures
and skin and belly button repositioned. A tummy tuck procedure will leave a scar along your bikini line that is easily hidden by panties or a bathing suit. If you have excess skin and fat, a tummy tuck and liposuction are commonly administered together for the most effective results and sculpted, firm look. In addition, depending on the degree of muscle weakening, additional muscle tightening is available.
2. Breast augmentation (augmentation mammaplasty), lift (mastopexy), reduction
What is a breast augmentation, lift or reduction?
A breast augmentation, or augmentation mammaplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that increases the size of your breasts using implants. There are a variety of different implants available to choose from, including silicone gel implants, saline implants or fat grafting. After breast-feeding, many women experience stretch marks, sagging breasts and loss of breast size. A breast augmentation will restore your breasts, giving them a fuller appearance so you can feel more confident and feminine. Breast augmentation is one of the most popular post-pregnancy and post-great-feeding procedures among mothers. There are many decisions to consider when considering a breast augmentation, including impact sizing and shaping, incision options, placement options, recovery and the type of implant (silicone vs. saline or fat grafting).
A breast reduction, on the other hand, reduces the size of your breasts. Ff your breasts remain disproportionately large after breast-feeding and pregnancy and cause pain or posture issues, a breast reduction may be the solution for you. Breast reduction surgery involves removing fatty glands from the breasts and tightening the breast tissue and skin to shape smaller, lighter breasts.
A breast lift, or mastopexy, resolves sagging or uneven breasts, dropping nipples and stretched areolas. A breast lift will enhance the appearance of your breasts, giving them a youthful look, shape and feel. A breast augmentation/reduction and lift are commonly done together on women experiencing any of the aforementioned consequences of pregnancy.
How is the procedure done?
Step 1 – General anesthesia or intravenous sedation for your comfort during the procedure.
Step 2 – A surgeon will make an inconspicuous incision to minimize scarring. There are multiple incision options, including periareolar incision (around the areolas), inframammary incision (around the base of the breast) and transaxillary incision (above the armpit).
Step 3 – Once the incision is made, the implant will be placed either under the pectoral muscle or over the pectoral muscle, directly behind the breast tissue. Implant placement depends on the type on implant and your anatomy.
3. Liposuction (lipoplasty)
What is liposuction?
liposuction, or lipoplasty, permanently removes excess fat from your hips, thighs and stomach. Whereas a tummy tuck will remove extra abdominal skin, liposuction will give you a nice sculpted look, improving the contour of your stomach and hips. Liposuction is also effective in other parts of your body you may have experienced weight gain, including in the chest, upper arms, neck and knees.
How is the procedure done?
Step 1 – General or local anesthesia depending on the amount of fat to be removed.
Step 2 – A surgeon will make a small incision in the target area and insert a cannula (thin, hollow rod) through the fat.
Step 3 – The cannula acts like a vacuum and suctions the fat up the rod.
Step 4 – A compression garment will be worn after fat removal.
